The matching note was discovered in North Fort Myers, Florida

"I live in North Fort Myers, Florida. Last year when the info first came out I was serving tacos at an establishment in Fort Myers once a week, quite frequently every week. Of course I got tips throughout the night. Every time I got home from serving tacos I counted my loot and looked for the 2013 star notes. I was really excited the one time I found this bill. From that point on every time I was counting my tips, I was hoping for another one but I never did find one. I stopped doing tacos quite a while ago and to this day I still occasionally look for dollar bills in my daily life with this in mind. I tucked away the bill I found and then somewhere along the way I discovered your website and logged into it. And here I am ๐Ÿ˜Š " - member rak7r

Market Value Context for Collectors

Based on ONE recent public auction results for Series 2013B matched pairs graded in ranges comparable to Project 2013B’s estimated condition of this pair, example has yielded $600. The newly confirmed pair discussed above is currently ungraded; and arguably in worse conditon than the example's grade of 30 and 15. One bill has a missing corner which means chances are good that if the bill was graded, the grade given would simply be "Details" (damaged). Project 2013B’s grade assessment represents an educated estimate only, intended to provide context should the co-owners elect third-party grading by PCGS Banknote or PMG. Actual market value may vary depending on final certified grades, eye appeal, and auction conditions.

Handled as "Genuine" with "Details": For banknotes with "damage" like a tear, PCGS will not assign a numeric grade (such as 65, 40, etc.). Instead, they will authenticate the note, mark it as "Genuine" on the holder, and typically include a descriptor code indicating the problem, such as one for "Environmental Damage" or a more direct code for "Damage," and note specifics like "Tear" or "Corner Missing" on the label. PMG, another major banknote grading company, uses a similar "Net Grade" or "Details" approach for notes with missing corners.

In simple terms, a torn corner is a significant condition issue that prevents a note from receiving a numeric grade representing perfection, but PCGS will still authenticate its genuineness and note the defect.

Recent auction results suggest that the market value of confirmed Series 2013B matched pairs—often classified as serial number errors—can vary significantly based on condition, professional PCGS or PMG grading, and overall paper money eye appeal.

Recent Auction Results for Comparable Matched Pairs

The confirmed pair discussed above is ungraded. The auction results below show how broadly comparable matched pairs have performed across varying grade combinations.

Collectors evaluating whether to buy, sell, or submit a matched pair for grading often use recent auction prices as a benchmark.

Differences in hammer price largely reflect the lower of the two grades in each matched pair, as collectors typically price pairs based on the weaker note.

Key Factors Influencing 2013B Value

Prices reflect public auction results only and are provided for historical reference. Individual outcomes vary based on condition, eye appeal, grading, and market demand.

  • Grading: Notes certified by PMG or PCGS Banknote Grading command a premium over raw or ungraded pairs due to higher perceived paper money value.
  • Condition Floor: The market value of a matched pair is usually dictated by the lower-graded note in the set.
  • Provenance: Inclusion in the Project 2013B Registry adds a layer of verified authenticity that influences auction competitiveness.
  • Serial Number Errors: Confirmed duplicate serial numbers are a recognized form of serial number errors within U.S. paper money collecting.
  • Timing of sale and auction visibility
  • Error Classification: While not misprinted banknotes, matched pairs are often collected alongside other recognized U.S. currency error types.

Market prices fluctuate based on collector demand and availability. All values shown are historical references and should not be considered a formal currency appraisal.

For a complete breakdown of auction prices across grades and serial numbers, see the full Matched Pair Auction Results page.

Market Context

Prior comparable sales of similarly graded matched pairs have ranged between $502.00 and $3,550.00, making this result statistically significant within the current market for Series 2013B duplicate serial number star notes in the graded currency market.

This outcome contributes to the evolving understanding of banknote value and demonstrates sustained collector demand for authenticated serial number error pairs verified through Project 2013B’s public registry.

Analytical Commentary

While individual matched pairs vary based on condition, eye appeal, and certification outcomes, this result reinforces the importance of professional grading (such as PCGS grading or PMG certification) when establishing transparent currency appraisal benchmarks.

Notably, the hammer price represents:

  • A new high within its grade tier of VF25
  • Confirmation of sustained market strength
  • A documented public benchmark for future valuation comparisons

Registry Documentation

This matched pair remains permanently documented within Project 2013B’s confirmed matched pair registry , preserving its status as a verified serial number error pair within the ongoing public documentation and research of Series 2013B matched pairs.

Conclusion
