Series 2013B VF35/VF20 Matched Pair Hits Record Price

A confirmed Series 2013B $1 duplicate serial number matched pair has realized a final hammer price of $3,666.02 at public auction, establishing a new record price for this grade tier (VF35/VF20) and further defining current banknote value levels for authenticated matched pairs. This sale sets a new benchmark above the previous $2,600.00 record for a pair graded VF35 and VF20, and aids currency appraisal.

Auction Summary

Registry Status Record Result Documented
Serial Number B08869546*
Note 1 Grade (FW) VF35
Note 2 Grade (DC) VF20
Auction Date May 24, 2026
Final Hammer Price $3,666.02
Auction House GreatCollections

Market Context

Prior comparable sale of similarly graded matched pair (VF35/VF20) was $2600, making this result of $3,666.02 statistically significant within the current market for Series 2013B duplicate serial number star notes in the graded currency market.

This outcome contributes to the evolving understanding of banknote value and demonstrates sustained and strengthening collector demand for authenticated serial number error pairs verified through Project 2013B’s public registry.

Analytical Commentary

While individual matched pairs vary based on condition, eye appeal, and certification outcomes, this result reinforces the importance of professional grading (such as PCGS grading or PMG certification) when establishing transparent currency appraisal benchmarks.

Notably, the hammer price represents:

  • A record high within its grade combination of VF35/VF20
  • Confirmation of sustained market strength
  • A documented public benchmark for future valuation comparisons

Registry Documentation

This matched pair remains permanently documented within Project 2013B’s confirmed matched pair registry , preserving its status as a verified serial number error pair within the ongoing public documentation and research of Series 2013B matched pairs.

Conclusion

As more matched pairs surface in the marketplace, documented results such as this help establish clearer, transparent ranges for collectors assessing misprinted banknotes, duplicate serial number errors, and authenticated matched pair opportunities, while also contributing to broader insights into collectible paper money prices and current market value.

VF25/F15 Series 2013B Matched Pair Establishes New Auction Benchmark

VF25/F15 Certified Series 2013B Matched Pair Establishes New Public Auction Benchmark

Series 2013B duplicate serial number matched pair final auction result
Result outperformed 9 of 10 auctions of higher graded VF25/VF20 pairs

A confirmed Series 2013B $1 duplicate serial number matched pair has realized a final hammer price of $3,433.00 at public auction, establishing a new benchmark for this grade tier and further defining current paper money value levels for authenticated matched pairs. This auction is believed to represent the first publicly documented sale of a matched pair certified in the specific grade combination of PCGS Very Fine 25 and Fine 15. Notably, the realized hammer price outperformed 9 of the 10 previously recorded public auction results for matched pairs graded at the slightly higher VF25/VF20 combination, highlighting unusually strong collector demand relative to condition expectations. The May 10 auction also establishes the first meaningful public benchmark reference for the VF25/F15 grade tier, providing an important new valuation datapoint for future matched pair comparisons.

Auction Summary

Serial Number B09060000*
Certified Grades PCGS VF25/F15
Auction Date May 10, 2026
Final Hammer Price $3,433.00
Auction House GreatCollections

Market Context

Because no previously documented public auction records existed for a VF25/F15 certified matched pair, this sale effectively establishes the first meaningful market reference point for this specific grade combination within the Series 2013B duplicate serial number marketplace.

Despite one note carrying the lower Fine 15 designation, the realized hammer price exceeded the majority of previously recorded auction results for matched pairs certified at the slightly higher VF25/VF20 combination. The result suggests that collector demand, rarity, and authenticated provenance continue to outweigh relatively minor differences in circulated grade tiers when evaluating elite matched pairs.

This outcome contributes to the evolving understanding of banknote value and demonstrates sustained collector demand for authenticated serial number error pairs verified through Project 2013B’s public registry.

  • Benchmark price for first matched pair graded VF25/F15

Project 2013B – Matched Pairs: Registry Surpasses 85,000 Cataloged Serial Number Entries

Project 2013B achieves a significant expansion of its permanent historical record, surpassing a critical new benchmark in the documentation of Series 2013B duplication errors.

Project 2013B Milestone - 85,000 Serial Numbers Cataloged

Historical database growth for Series 2013B duplicate serial number star notes.

Project 2013B – Matched Pairs: Registry Surpasses 85,000 Cataloged Serial Numbers

Status: Milestone Reached
Milestone: 85,000 Unique Entries
Total Confirmed Matches: 241
Series: 2013B $1 Star Notes

The Project 2013B database has officially surpassed 85,000 unique serial number entries, further solidifying its role as the primary research continuation archive for the Series 2013 $1 (B) star note duplication event. This growth provides essential valuation context for collectors assessing banknote value or seeking a professional currency appraisal.

By cataloging these serial number errors and misprinted banknotes, the project continues to provide the conclusive proof required to verify Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) duplication events.

Market Reference: Historical paper money value for confirmed matched pairs remains strong. Based on recent results, hammer prices have ranged from $500 to over $25,000 depending on PCGS grading, eye appeal, and serial number rarity. Documented results, including a record $3,111.11 for a circulated pair, help establish transparent benchmarks for the collector market.

Submissions remain open for notes within the valid duplication ranges:
B00000001* to B00250000* and B03200001* to B09600000*. Every submission adds a vital data point to the most comprehensive historical price dataset for this error. Refer to the Duplicate Serial Number Guide

The Collective Sales of Project 2013B's Discovered Pairs Exceeds $200,000

$200,000 graphic styled with U.S. dollar bill elements celebrating Project 2013B matched-pair sales milestone.
Celebrating a major milestone as Project 2013B matched-pair sales surpass the $200,000 mark.

Series 2013 Duplicate Serial Number Notes Pass $200K in Auctions

Since it launched, Project 2013B has verified well over 200 matched-pairs of the rare series 2013B “duplicate serial number” star notes. Impressively, many of those matched pairs have moved into the collector market and been sold or auctioned. Combined, just the portion of matched pairs that have gone through auctions have now generated over US $200,000 in hammer prices — a milestone that underscores how these pieces of currency-error history have become vibrant collector items.

What’s more, the project continues to maintain a detailed, publicly accessible record of auction history — you can explore this full list of sales on the project’s own site at auction-history.2013b.com . This snapshot not only reflects the growing demand for these matched pairs, but also provides valuable transparency around what the marketplace is willing to pay for them.

While the momentum behind these sales has been remarkable, it’s also clear that pricing for matched pairs can be highly volatile, even among notes of the same grade. Because the market is still relatively young and many collectors are only beginning to learn about the 2013B duplication error, realized prices can swing significantly from one auction to the next. Over time, however, as more sales data accumulates and the error becomes more widely recognized within the paper-money community, these values are expected to stabilize. The continually expanding auction record—documented at auction-history.2013b.com—will play an important role in helping collectors and dealers better understand fair market ranges for these unique matched pairs.

Series 2013 Matched Pair Dollar Bills Sell for $2,051, and A Rare Error Currency Milestone

Discover the Fascinating Journey of a Rare Series 2013 Matched Pair Dollar Bills

Series 2013 matched pair dollar bills with serial numbers B08803416*, sold for $2,051
Matched pair dollar bills graded 'Very Fine 25' set a record with a $2,051 hammer price.

A captivating piece of numismatics history unfolded last Sunday as a Series 2013 matched pair dollar bills, serial number B08803416*, achieved a hammer price of $2,051 (plus a 10% buyer's fee) at auction. This rare error currency pair, graded "Very Fine 25," (both notes) now boasts the third-highest auction result for such collectible U.S. dollar bills in this condition.

The journey of this rare matched pair began years ago. The 'Fort Worth' printed 2013B Star Note was first registered by member TZN4D on August 15, 2024—the same day the matched pair was officially confirmed. Its counterpart, the 'Washington DC' printed 2013B Star Note, had been registered earlier in May 2022 by member miQNx.

The owner of the DC note shared their excitement back when the matching pair was first detected, remarking, "This will be my third match if confirmed. My first one is currently up for auction through Project 2013B and GreatCollections. Here's hoping for #3!" The co-owners of these matched bills turned to Project 2013B for grading and auction facilitation.

Project 2013B’s Promotion Triumphs Over GreatCollections’ Minimal Effort

GreatCollections played the role in bringing this rare currency pair to market, doing the 'hard work' of collecting their buyer's fee, and to be honest practically nothing in terms of promotion. ALL promotion was undertaken by this website, and using its various social media accounts like X and facebook. These efforts by Project 2013B were evident in the results.  Just one month ago, a matched pair which was sold on GreatCollections, had banknotes graded a Very Fine 30 and a Choice Fine 35 respectively. That '35/30' graded pair listing was not consigned through this project.  The final bid for that pair was $1894.00 which was $157 (7.3%) LESS than what was achieved on Sunday with our pair of 'Very Fine 25" graded banknotes; both bills being a lower grade than the lowest graded bill of the '35/30' graded pair.

Matched pair dollar bills auctioned through GreatCollections, NOT promoted by Project 2013B
Without Project 2013B's promotion, a higher-graded matched pair fetched a lower auction price.

Project 2013B Breaks $160,000 Milestone in Rare Matched Pairs

Since Project 2013B took over the Zegers-Winograd Project in October 2021, the total value of matched pair dollar bills sold at auction has exceeded $160,000. This milestone is a testament to the enduring appeal of rare error currency and collectible U.S. dollar bills among currency enthusiasts. To date, 64 auctions have been recorded, including fixed-price “Buy-it-Now” listings that are categorized as auctions for simplicity. Out of these, 52 matched pairs were detected and confirmed by Project 2013B, showcasing its pivotal role in the duplicated serial number matched pair marketplace.

Celebrating 65,000 Serial Numbers Milestone

Celebrating 65,000 Serial Numbers Milestone

65,000 Serial Numbers!
65,000 Serial Numbers!

Project 2013B, an initiative that unites collectors of matching 2013B 'Duplicated Serial Number' star notes, has reached an impressive milestone with 65,000 serial numbers now recorded in its database. This unique project aims to connect individuals who own these special $1 star notes, created due to a printing error by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. This error led to the duplication of serial numbers between the Washington DC and Fort Worth, TX facilities, a rarity among New York (B seal) Federal Reserve Notes, making them highly coveted among collectors.

As we celebrate this significant achievement of 65,000 serial numbers, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has contributed to this growing database. Your submissions are not just numbers but pieces of a larger puzzle that tell a remarkable story of printing errors, rarity, and the enduring appeal of star notes. Here's to reaching new milestones and continuing to connect people to find and bring together more matched pairs!
